The examination and your oral health

Besides the dentist shouting out a few numbers and the dental nurse writing them up on the computer, do you actually know what's going on in your check up?

Using state of the art equipment we walk you round your mouth and show you what's actually going on inside.

The use of specialist cameras, digital x-rays and a large viewing screen for patients means that dentistry is being taken to a new level and you can be part of the process and decision making.

As well as checking the health of your teeth and gums our dentists compose a full oral cancer screening and tailor your oral hygiene regime to your needs and lifestyle, we don't just read from the textbook.

We don't just tell you what you need to do, we show you!

Tooth Whitening at Home

Would you like sparkling white teeth? But think that it would take too long or be too much like hard work? Well your wrong!

We simply take some moulds, make you some custom fit trays... you go home, put the minty gel in the trays and have a good night's sleep! It's really as simple as that. This method takes about 10-14 applications but still achieves fantastic results.

This also includes a complimentary whitening kit to take home so you can keep your pearly white smile for as long as you want!

Tooth whitening can cause some slight sensitivity for some people, but it doesn't last forever. To minimise the risk of this happening we only use Phillips Zoom for our tooth whitening.

Why?
Because unlike most whitening gels, Phillips Zoom incorporates ACP (de-sensitising agent) into their formula, reducing the risk of post treatment sensitivity enormously. If you opt for tooth whitening at home we will tailor the formula to your specific needs, taking into account any previous sensitivity, and oversee your treatment from the surgery.

Why not talk to your dentist today about the options available and how we can help you get that dazzlingly white smile!

Frequently Asked Questions

Tooth whitening is one of the most common form of cosmetic treatments used in dentistry. Hydrogen peroxide in a gel form is used to lift stains from teeth.

The bleaching process in any form is not painful in itself, the process may cause short term sensitivity in some people's teeth. This can be managed at home using de-sensitising agents.

This will depend on your lifestyle and dietary habits. Things like smoking, coffee and red wine will all stain your teeth and cause your teeth to darken faster. On most people they will start to notice they may need to be topped up after 12-18 months. As long as you still have your trays you will only need to buy the gel refills and you shouldn't need to repeat the whole process.

Treatment costs £264

EU legislation states that bleaching using hydrogen peroxide can only be prescribed by your dentist, if you haven't had your teeth checked in over 12 months you will need to book in for an examination first to check that your teeth are suitable. If you have had a check-up you can just simply call up and request a 15 minute appointment for impressions which will be used to make your custom fit trays.

Your dentist will then talk you through your options again, give you the relevant consent forms and get your final appointment made.

Tooth Whitening in Surgery

This is the quickest method of the two and gives you whiter teeth in just one hour. Simply come for your 90 minute appointment. We will paint on some clear mint flavoured gel on your teeth and whilst you kick back and watch the TV or listen to some music for an hour, the blue light and the gel do all the work for you!

This also includes a complimentary whitening kit to take home so you can keep your pearly white smile for as long as you want!

You can 3D print almost anything these days, so why not print your tooth?

No more waiting around labs, if you break your tooth you can walk out with a brand new one; your tooth can be made whilst you wait.

As well as the convenience of these crowns there are other benefits to.

The retention of these crowns are created by using a bonding technique, this means that more of your tooth can be preserved than that of a traditional crown.

And the best part is they are made from porcelain... so no metal, they're tooth coloured and therefore nobody would ever know it's not your real tooth!

So with a closer fit and no need to come back to get it fitted you can see why the cerecs are a high contender when it comes to our best selling treatments!

Tooth straightening using C-fast

C-fast braces are a new innovative system that combines aspects of the traditional methods of straightening teeth but boasts a modern twist!

The system itself consists of tooth coloured plastic brackets that are bonded to the teeth using a resin. Once the brackets are bonded a tooth coloured Nickel Titanium wire gently pushes and pulls the teeth back into alignment and is fixed in place using clear elastic bands.

Because the system only concentrates on the teeth in your smile line it usually only takes between 3-6 months to straighten your teeth.

Here at Dentistry at the Gallery in Leamington Spa we use a straightforward, minimally invasive treatment called C-fast. This system uses discreet, tooth coloured brackets and white Nickel titanium wire to gently move teeth back into alignment, often in less than six months!

Frequently Asked Questions

One arch costs from £1800 and for both from £3000, less severe cases can be a lot cheaper, this would need to be assessed by your dentist who will give you an independent costing estimate.

The braces themselves are tooth coloured so can only be noticed up close. Some people's speech gets affected for the short term but settles over time when your lips adjust to their new form. Most people don't get affected at all.

The process itself is not painful and requires no drilling of the teeth. Some people get a sense of pressure whilst the teeth are moving but nothing drastic.

Usually we like to review the teeth every 3-5 weeks to change over the wires and make subtle adjustments to the positioning of the brackets. Some people may have longer or shorter intervals, it all depends on the severity of the movement required.

Included in your price is a permanent retainer which is bonded to the back of your teeth as well as a removable retainer you wear at night, so as long as you keep wearing your retainer they will remain straight.

You will need to call and book a consultation with the reception team, the dentist will discuss your options, give you a rough idea on how long it will take and be able to give you a more accurate costing.

Tooth Cleaning using Aquaclean

Aquaclean is a fantastic new way of cleaning your teeth, instead of using traditional methods of polish using a cup and abrasive paste we use this new method which is similar to that of a jet wash!

Aquaclean, using natural bicarbonate of soda and high pressure water, can thoroughly clean your teeth with its gently abrasive action: removing staining from the tooth surface without damaging tooth enamel.

The bicarbonate of soda particles get into those spaces between and around your teeth that a traditional clean cannot reach, giving you an all round better result.

For those patients with sensitivity we can use the same process to clean your teeth but with a Novamin treatment, so you can benefit from a really good clean and reduced staining too.

If you have also had a tooth whitening treatment, Aquaclean can help maintain the result keeping your teeth looking whiter for longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Although the sensation is unusual it is not painful.

In order to maintain the very best of oral health it is always recommended that you have a check-up but because all of our hygiene is completed by a dentist it is not compulsory.

Because polishing is not necessary to maintain health of your teeth it is classed as cosmetic and therefore not covered by the NHS.

The standard cost for an aquaclean is £60 but if you are a plan patient this will be included as one of your annual treatments or at a reduced rate for your second one.

Flexible partial dentures

Dentures have always been an affordable and non-invasive option to restore missing teeth, but they don't always get a great press! When we suggest flexible partial dentures as an alternative to permanent tooth replacement, patients often worry that they will be uncomfortable, will move in their mouth, or cause issues eating.

And of course 'flexible' dentures sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, who wants flexible teeth?! But actually these dentures are a flexible solution, allowing you to remove them whenever you want and made out of nylon resin so they are robust, lightweight and flexible.

This great innovation in prosthetic dentistry acts and looks just like real teeth. They fit snuggly and comfortably in your mouth, they don't 'chunk' or reveal any metal when you smile, and they can handle food just as your real teeth can.

Unlike acrylic or metal dentures, because of their flexible composition they won't break if you drop them in the sink, and they're also a more affordable choice than other denture options.

Need further convincing? Speak to your dentist about flexi-dentures to find out whether this tooth replacement option is right for you. We'll explore all the alternatives too, so you can make an informed decision about your oral care.

White fillings

They're not just a pretty face you know... or just for cavities

If you thought that white fillings were just used for cosmetic reasons you may be surprised to learn that in actual fact white fillings are now becoming a popular alternative to more invasive treatments such as crowns, inlays and even veneers.

This is because they can act as a glue to hold your teeth together, avoiding the need to remove a large proportion of your actual tooth. This way you not only get a new tooth, you get to keep your old one too!

Of course they're also used to fill cavities and are much nicer to look at than the traditional amalgam filling. These robust composites are discreet, polish well and come in lots of lovely tooth shades!

At home treatment and prevention (GUMSAVER)

We are all about prevention here at this practice - so much so that the practice owner Dr Mostafa designed a brush specifically to combat and prevent that dreaded Gum disease! At the very least it can cause bad breath, but it can also result in tooth loss and lead to medical complications such as heart disease and diabetes.

As part of your tailored oral hygiene routine, GumSaver acts like a vital organ in ensuring that nasty bacteria is kept away from harms reach.

Unlike traditional brushing aids, the bristles on the GumSaver brush are angled specifically to directly target those hard to reach areas. Instead of bunching up at the end they gently sweep in give your gums a clear out of all the horrible stuff that gives rise to the toxins that cause gum disease and bad breath.

This brush isn't just approved by dentists - it was invented by one!
